Restorative Care Training Program
|

This course is designed to provide participants with practical, ready-to-use tools that will enable them to set goals and develop strategies for their facilities which support a holistic approach to resident care, and fosters independence in mobility, dining, dressing, bathing, communication and other activities of daily living. Information is disseminated and retained through problem solving and case study reviews, practical demonstrations and work site assignments. |

DAY 1
Overview of Restorative Care
Discussion on Restorative Care programs currently in place at
participants’ facilities
Assessment, planning, goal setting, implementation, review and
monitoring of a Restorative Care Program (development
of goals and ideas)
Discussion on group sessions versus one-on-one resident care
for various types of residents
Monitoring and measuring effectiveness of a Restorative Care
Program
Demonstration of an exercise program using a Restorative Care
approach with the active involvement of all participants
Small group discussions and demonstrations on the development
of a restorative care exercise group
Assignment to be completed before Day 2 |

On-Site Ergonomic Training Programs
|
|
ACTIVE Health Management
provides on-site training for rehabilitation or restorative
care aides, nurses and personal care workers on the
most current ergonomic intervention for transferring and
repositioning of residents, injury prevention and
identifying and reducing ergonomic risk factors. Injury rates associated with healthcare providers
who work in Long Term Care facilities represent the
highest among occupational injuries in the country.
This training program will significantly reduce your work
place injuries and WSIB premiums. |

Rehabilitation Assistant Review Program
|
| This course provides rehabilitation assistants and restorative
care aides with the skills, knowledge, and techniques
required to safely
carry out restorative care and rehabilitation functions
such as walking programs, group exercise classes, passive
range of motion and application of electrotherapy devices
(i.e. hot/cold therapy, ultrasound, wax, TENS and EMS). In addition,
participants are taught safe lifts and transfer techniques
and how to properly maintain assistive devices.
This course offers an excellent review for any
individual working in a rehabilitation or restorative
care capacity |
Our
Instructors
Thora Smaller
Thora, a registered physiotherapist and occupational therapist (Dip. P&OT) with over 30 years of experience, brings a wealth of knowledge to Restorative Care. Thora has held diverse Senior Management roles with the City of Toronto, Homes for the Aged over a 16-year period. She currently acts as a management consultant, specializing in programs and services in the fields of Long Term Care, Restorative Care, Rehabilitation and Functional Assessments.
Donna Hrynkiw
Donna is a registered physiotherapist with 30 years of experience, who has worked in a wide range of physiotherapy activities, including rehabilitation and long term care. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto (B.Sc. Physical Therapy), and currently an assessor/remediator for the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, an ADP authorizer for the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and an instructor at George Brown College. Donna also maintains a private practice.
