Highlights of
ACTIVE's Health Information Technology
ACTIVE Health Management offers a number of solutions to the challenges faced by insurance companies, plan sponsors and healthcare providers. We provide better ways to support claimants through the automation and simplification of time-consuming tasks such as determining eligibility, enrolling for health benefits, managing a referral, processing a claim, reimbursing for a claim, finding quality healthcare providers and determining best healthcare options for claimants. Our solutions are inexpensive, flexible and guarantee security. ACTIVE Health Management’s technology:
allows healthcare information to be exchanged between disparate participants across geographic and
business boundaries, without violating patient confidentiality.
simplifies and streamlines healthcare billing and reduces errors.
allows for the co-ordination of benefits between insurers.
simplifies time-consuming tasks such as determining eligibility, enrolling for health benefits, managing a
referral, processing a claim, reimbursing for a claim, finding quality healthcare providers and determining best healthcare options for claimants.
allows users to extract valuable predictive information, based on historical patient/claimant files, to assist in setting reserves and in determining whether a treatment plan is reasonable and necessary. This type of
information allows all users of the system, providers and payers, to make informed decisions.
allows third-party payers to compare provider outcomes with peer groups for similar patient populations.
brings credible healthcare information to insurance claimants and employees, and can be linked to third-
party payers’ Health and Benefit Web sites.
Research Projects - In Progress
Soft-Tissue Predictive Modeling Project
Active Health has been involved in a multi-year research project (beginning in 1998) in which it is developing predictive models of outcomes and recovery from soft-tissue injuries. Such models will be useful in setting standards for treatment costs, identifying departures from treatment plans, differentiating injury diagnoses in terms of their recovery patterns, and segmenting patient groups in terms of their responsiveness to treatment for different types of injury.
Achievements made thus far in this multi-year research project include:
- Construction of a large database of patient records concerning treatment and recovery from soft-tissue injuries.
- Development of predictive models of recovery that account for about 10 percent of the variability (i.e., multiple correlations of around .3) in outcome criteria (such as percent function)
Falls Prediction and Mobility Indexing Project
In 2005 ACTIVE Health Management began a research project aimed at developing valid and reliable measurements of Falls Prediction and Mobility Indexing. The goal of this research project is to:
- Predict with certainty if an individual is at risk of falls
- Identify the mechanism that puts them at risk of falls
- Develop treatment programs that are effective in reducing the incidence of falls
- Develop a tool which can determine the appropriate level of independent mobility for an individual, which takes into consideration an acceptable falls risk.
